Galapagos Day 5
Ok so I have a chance to blooooog. Today is the 5th day and so we stop at Stanta Cruz Island and drop off those passengers that only booked a 5 day trip and pick up a few more that have booked a four day trip. This basically all means that I get a chance to fill you in on what’s been going on.I’m gonna try and do this in short little snipets because I’ll get to tired trying to put in alllll the details. Thats what in-person-conversations are all about anyway.
So Day one and two were spent on San Cristobal Island. Went snorkeling a bunch and also visited a really beautiful beach where we were the only people on it. In those two days I say sea lions (they are everywhere and super friggin cute), sting rays, sea turtles, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies (a famous galapogos bird).
Day Three was spent at Española Island. In the morning we had a free walk/beach time at a beach that was covered in sea lions. We then at mid morning went for a snorkle around this huge rock just out in the bay area of the island. In the afternoon we went for a hike up and around these cliffs - you get soooo close to the animals here because they dont see humans as a threat. I am talking about being within 6 inches of a blue-footed boobie or a sea lion. It is amazing. The hike was really nice and saw a lot of birds including again the blue-footed boobie, the mask boobie, hawks, and albatroses. Also again saw lava lizards and marine iguanas.
Day Four, yesterday, was spent on Santa Maria Island. In the morning we again went on to a beach area and had about 2 hours of free time to snorkle, sun bathe, walk etc. There is also this onle ´post office´on the island which is actually just a big barrell where people put their post cards into and then you are supposed to take out any post cards from near where you live and take them home with you and mail them ( or hand deliver them). It´s a tradition started back when whaling ships used to port on the Island as a means for communication. I actually found a post card from westhampton MA - nuts. So I grabbed it and plan to send it when I get back home. There is also a sand futbol (soccer) field where our crew played against another crew (we won). Around 10:30 we got back on board and went snorkeling throught these huge rocks with stong currents. It was really intense but didn´t see any new fish.
And that brings us to today here on Santa Cruz at a partially outdoors internet cafe. Hope you are all doing well!
