Outta the Loop
So I´m pretty exhuasted so my post about my Mindo trip is going to be postponed. Instead I decided that I want to discuss the fact that I am completely out of the loop of what´s going on in the world outside of a 3 hour radius of Otavalo Ecuador.
While this is partly my fault since I have not been diligently checking online news sources ( but the internet here is slow, costs money and then I´d have less time to be on facebook and such). But it also partly due to the fact that the news is in spanish and also to the fact that people don´t really watch the news on television or at least not my host family and random t.v.s around town aren´t tuned in. I know that my family reads the local paper every day but that probably would take me over a day to try to read and comprehend. So basically I´m out of the loop. This also concerns music (although I have a new love of spanish reggaeton), pop culture, and basically anything else I used keep tabs on.
I am far more out of hte loop now then when I was in Australia, and to be honest I am reallllllly enjoying it. Now I´m not about to return and become some ignorant apathetic to the world around me person. But while I am here - it is actually quite nice to not be inundated with the (mostly depressing) news. I feel like at home, even when you aren´t trying to actively find out news you are over-hearing it in some manner. I am sure tons of people here are discussing the news but since I am not constantly walking around trying to pay 100% attention to everyones conversations (and even still I would only understand like 80% of what they were saying) I´m in my own little bubble and life in some ways just seems a little more simpler, and a little less stressful.
